<P>乐队最早成立于1969年，由 Rudolf Schenker（rhythm guitar/vocals）, Karl-Heinz Follmer（lead guitars）, Lothar Heimberg（bass）, Wolfgang Dziony（drums）组成，1971年，Rudolf Schenker 的弟弟 Michael Schenker 加入乐队，担任成为主音吉他一职，好朋友 Klaus Meine 则成为新的主唱。1972年，Scorpions 推出了第一张专辑《Lonesome Crow》，专辑中的一些歌曲后来被用在一部电影的原声唱片中。但他们的第一次出击并未引起人们太大的注意，倒是当时另一支著名的硬摇滚乐队 UFO 注意到了 Michael Schenker 的出色表现，在1973年把他挖入乐队。于是 Uli Jon Roth 加入 Scorpions ，代替原先 Michael Schenker 的位置，并成为乐队的领导人物，在他的领导下，Scorpions先后推出四张专辑：《Fly to the Rainbow》(1974), 《In Trance》(1975), 《Virgin Killer》(1976) 和《Taken By Force》（1977），尽管乐队当时并未在美国打响知名度，但他们在日本却很受欢迎。1978年，乐队推出了一套在东京现场演出的双专辑 - 《Tokyo Tapes》。</P>

<P>70年代末期，Michael Schenker 因酗酒过度而被逐出 UFO 而重新回到 Scorpions，1979年，乐队与 Mercury 公司签约。在新专辑《Lovedrive》推出前，乐队的核心人物 Uli Jon Roth 离开了乐队，而此刻的摇滚乐坛的潮流正是 Heavy Metal 日益火爆之时，乐队立刻转变了音乐风格，不像以前那样注重乐队中的吉他重奏，而是将音乐作得更流行，越来越倾向旋律化的硬摇滚，就像当时十分走红的 Van Halen 一样。专辑推出后，乐队开始了他们的第一次美国之行，但《Lovedrive》在美国却因里面同年，然而这次努力并未成功，相反过分性感的封面遭到了美国人的严厉谴责，Michael Schenker 仍是吸毒酗酒，并因此经常错过演奏的时间，Matthias Jabs 便被雇佣替补他未能到席的演出。最终 Michael Schenker 认识到自己的归来不能给乐队带来益处，离开了乐队。</P>

<P>经过一系列人事变动后，Scorpions 的阵容如下：Klaus Meine（vocals）, Rudolf Schenker （rhythm guitar）, Matthias Jabs（lead guitar）, Francis Bucholzon（bass）和 Herman Rarebell（drums）。</P>
